Crescent Heights has several programs throughout the school year. Here is a summary of some programs:
Family Fun Nights: The purpose of our family fun nights such as our Harvest Dance or Movie Night is to offer an opportunity for Crescent Heights families to get together and have fun. There is usually a small fee to cover the costs of the evening. If cost is ever an issue, please let us know. Some examples are Skate Night, Movie Night, Harvest Dance, Carnival, etc.
School Sweatshirts (Spirit Wear): These items are approved by school administration to fall within our uniform policy guidelines. Order online at www.shoplimitedlane.com/collections/crescent-heights-elementary. One version is for our K-4 students and our 5th Graders get their own exclusive style!
Books for Birthdays: A book can be donated to the library in your student’s name. A sticker goes inside the book with the student’s name and reason for the donation. You will receive a notice the month of your child’s birthday with information on how to participate. Your child’s picture with the donated book will be displayed on a bulletin board next to the library.
Crescent Heights One Book: With this program, we aim to build a community of readers at our school. The One Book program is a school-wide reading club where families and staff read the same book, at the same time. PTA funding supports the purchase of the book, printing costs and other program needs. The book is typically read in February. Happens every three years.
Field Trips: Without PTA funds, field trips would be difficult for teachers to offer due to the expense.
Greater PTA Membership: CHE PTA is a local unit of the Washington State PTA. Your dues include membership to the State & National PTA Organizations as another resource on current topics in education & parenting, and supporting their impact in legislation.
Hospitality: The PTA hosts a quarterly meal for teachers and staff in appreciation for their work throughout the year.
POPCORN FRIDAYS: Throughout the year, the PTA offers popcorn on a Friday for .50 per bag. Kids can purchase as many bags as they like. Just send in money with your child. Money helps pay for 5th grade camp.
Reflections Art Program: This program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Students may submit in six areas: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography and the visual arts. For more than 40 years, this program has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in American schools overseas to create works of art. Information goes out the end of October or early November.
Used Uniforms: We have a uniform rack at the bottom of the stairs that has used uniforms in good condition for people who need it. No questions asked. Families can donate used clothing in good condition to the school.
Yearbook: PTA volunteers handle the photographing, design, sale and distribution of this school-wide keepsake. The PTA provides scholarships to 5th grade families as needed. Make sure you order yours in the spring!
Fifth Grade Camp: Our 5th Graders attend Outdoor Environmental Education camp at YMCA Camp Seymour for three days in February. It’s a great chance to learn and bond as a group!
Healthy Kids Coalition: The coalition is a partnership between NE Tacoma PTAs, schools and community organizations that is focused on providing healthy weekend meals to students in need in our community.
Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week: We love our teachers and staff and love to show it! Each May, we participate in a nationally recognized week to honor and recognize our teachers. PTA provides a hospitality meal that week. Room parents handle classroom specific gifts, activities and/or acknowledgement.
Golden Acorn: An annual award presented to a volunteer in recognition of their dedication and service to children and youth. Since the beginning of the program, more than 44,000 Golden Acorns have been presented to volunteers throughout Washington State.
Husky Connection: Every Sunday the “Husky Connection” goes out to families who have signed up for it. Both PTA and all school information are sent out, including important upcoming dates/events. Sign up at www/chepta.org.
*** Consider helping in one (or more) of the following PTA sponsored programs. Volunteers are always needed and Chair and Co-Chair positions are still available. Please contact the PTA if you would like to volunteer or have questions: email@example.com
