Reflections Arts Contest: Dance Choreography
All children deserve opportunities to explore and be involved in the arts. In support of this, the PTA’s “Reflections” program is currently underway! This is our cornerstone arts program! It offers your child the opportunity to earn local, state and even national recognition for original artwork they create in response to the theme “Within Reach”.
Over the next few days, we will talk about each of the six different categories that your child may participate in. Today, we’ll talk about Dance Choreography.
Dance Choreography is the act of creating movement. Your child, the choreographer, may be the performer or one of the performers, but the choreographer does not have to perform in the entry.
Consider the following styles and ensembles to portray your original choreography:
Ethnic and Folk
Consider the use of background song(s), props and the location to show a clear relation of the dance choreography to the theme. An explanation of the origin of the dance and/or the significance of the choreography might be a useful addition to the artist statement when submitting a dance choreography entry that involves traditional, cultural or regional dances. Whether an entry displays formal dance technique or a simple approach, it will be judged primarily on how well the student uses his or her artistic vision to portray the theme, originality and creativity.
So – if you’ve been paying for dance lessons for months or years – have your student show off their talent! We know we have a lot of talented dancers at our school! Details and specific entry requirements are posted on the bulletin board outside of the library.
As a “sweet” incentive, each student that submits an entry will receive a $5 Menchie’s gift card! Remember, all entries are due in by Monday, November 13th.
Please, consider having your child participate in this program! Last year we had one of our students advance to the State level competition! We’d love to have a repeat this year.
