Reflections Arts Contest: Literature

All children deserve opportunities to explore and be involved in the arts.  In support of this, the PTA’s “Reflections” program is currently underway!  This is our cornerstone arts program!  It offers your child the opportunity to earn local, state and even national recognition for original artwork they create in response to the theme “Within Reach”.

Over the next few days, we will talk about each of the six different categories that your child may participate in.  Today, we’ll talk about Literature.

Literature is the art of writing.  Your student is the author, a person who expresses their own thoughts and ideas through the use of words.  Authors submit a single literary work, handwritten or typed, using grade-appropriate grammar, punctuation and spelling.  Collections of literary work (such as poems and short stories) are not accepted.

Consider the following literary styles to portray your original work of fiction or nonfiction:
Prose
Poetry
Drama (screen play and play script)
Reflective Essay
Narrative
Short Story

Do you have a writer at home?  Does your child love to write short stories or poems?  This is the category for them!  Details and specific entry requirements are posted on the bulletin board outside of the library.

As a “sweet” incentive, each student that submits an entry will receive a $5 Menchie’s gift card!  Remember, all entries are due in by MondayNovember 13th.

Please, consider having your child participate in this program!  Last year we had one of our students advance to the State level competition!   We’d love to have a repeat this year.

Thank you!
