Teacher Tuesday Profile: Angela Corley

This week we are featuring a newer staff member to Crescent Heights, Angela Corley!  We are glad to have her back after an absence at the beginning of the year.  Here is more about Angela:

What is your name, and what grade/specialty do you teach?
My name is Angela Corley and I teach 3rd grade.

CorleyTell us a bit about your family.  Do you have kids?  If so, what ages are they?  Do you have pets?
I have one grown son named Anthony who lives in Kent and graduated from UW. I have 2 pets: a chocolate lab named Brownie and a tuxedo cat named Boots.

What are your hobbies?  What do you love to do outside of work?
I love to spend time with family and friends. I love watching and attending Seahawks games (I go to 1 game every season). I like to read, see live music, spend time in nature, and travel.

How long have you been teaching, and how many years at Crescent Heights?
This is my 23rd year teaching. I have worked for the Tacoma School District since 1993. Last year I taught Kindergarten at Arlington. Prior to Arlington I taught at Blix Elementary from 1999-2015. At Blix I taught first, second, and third grade. Prior to Blix I taught at Seward Elementary and Mann Elementary as a LAP reading teacher.

What is the funniest thing a student has ever done in your class?
Many funny moments, but one that comes to mind is when a first grader started singing Brittany Spear’s song “Oops I Did It Again” when trying to ask another student what type of music he liked and the student didn’t understand. Maybe you had to be there!? It was so funny!

If you weren’t a teacher, what else would you love to do as your career?
I would want to do some type of artistic expression: an artist, an author, or a musician. Not saying I am talented in these areas, just dream jobs.

Tell us one thing you’d love for the families of Crescent Heights to know about you.
I feel blessed to join the staff at Crescent Heights. It truly seems like a wonderful community. I grew up in Tacoma myself and graduated Lincoln High School in 1987.

Thanks Angela!!
