Teacher Tuesday profile: Jaimie Smith
Happy Tuesday, Crescent Heights Families! We’re kicking off a new segment this year called “Teacher Tuesdays!” Each week we will be introducing you to one of our amazing Crescent Heights staff members. We asked them some lighthearted questions about themselves so that you can get to know them a little bit better.
We’re starting off with our new school counselor, Jaimie Smith. If you haven’t met her yet, please stop by and introduce yourself. She has jumped into CHE with both feet and has made an amazing impact already. We’re blessed to have her on our staff. Here’s her interview:
What is your name, and what grade/specialty do you teach?
I’m Jaimie Smith! The kids call me “Miss Smith” and I am the school counselor! I get to work with all grades and all students. I teach classroom lessons once a month, run groups, and work with students one-on-one on a variety of topics such as problem-solving, friendship skills, emotion regulation, and more!
Tell us a bit about your family. Do you have kids? If so, what ages are they? Do you have pets?
I have two older sisters, and we all look identical! I am very close with my family, but don’t have a family of my own quite yet! I also don’t have pets, but have found myself searching the kitty adoption pages recently… yikes!
What are your hobbies? What do you love to do outside of work?
I love to golf! I played in high school and college and still love to play for fun and enter tournaments when I can. I also love to read and write. I also am known to throw on my cowboy boots on the weekends and go line dancing (yes, you read that right!).
How long have you been teaching, and how many years at Crescent Heights?
This is my FIRST year as a school counselor as well as my FIRST year at Crescent Heights. I am very excited to start my school counseling career here, and I have a feeling this year will always be very special to me.
What is the funniest thing a student has ever done in your class?
A student once asked if I was a doctor because it was so confusing how I made their heart feel better. (talk about a tear jerker!).
If you weren’t a teacher, what else would you love to do as your career?
I would probably want to be a wedding/event planner. I’ve actually still considered taking up being a ‘day-of-wedding coordinator’ in the summers. I love planning events and seeing them come to life. While school counseling is my main passion, I have always loved planning events and would love to be able to work that into my life within the next few years.
Tell us one thing you’d love for the families of Crescent Heights to know about you.
I am here full-time, which is a huge win for Crescent Heights! I am here to support your student(s), as well as your family. If I don’t know the answer I will ensure that I work my hardest to find it for you, and will always put your student first to ensure their safety and success. I enjoy a sense of humor in others, a yummy breakfast, and as much iced coffee as my body can handle!
