Teacher Tuesday Profile: Mike Caldwell

This week it’s our favorite PE teacher and sports fan, Mike Caldwell!  He also graciously volunteers to watch our CHE kids during PTA meetings so more parents can attend!  (THANK YOU!)  Here is more about Mike:

What is your name, and what grade/specialty do you teach?
Mike Caldwell. I teach PE K-5mike

Tell us a bit about your family.  Do you have kids?  If so, what ages are they?  Do you have pets?
I have twins that are 11 years old, Manny and Mia.  They attend CHE and are in Mr. Clapp’s class.  I have a dog named Grizzly.

What are your hobbies?  What do you love to do outside of work?
I played soccer at PLU for four years.  I have coached soccer for over 25 years. I coached at Stadium High School boys and girls. Now I coach at Meeker Middle School boys and girls. I love watching the Seahawks. I’m a huge Star Wars fan.  Have you seen Rogue One yet?
Any Seattle sports team I like!! Sounders💚⚽💙, M’s⚾️ and Huskies💛🐕💜.

How long have you been teaching, and how many years at Crescent Heights?
I have been teaching for 25 years. I taught 3rd grade at Sheridan Elementary. I have been at CHE since the beginning. I taught 3rd grade for 3 years then moved to PE!!

What is the funniest thing a student has ever done in your class?
The funniest thing that happened was a boy named Kasey King (senior at Stadium this year) was running during a game. I had my wireless microphone headset on.  There’s a cord that goes from headset to the battery back and somehow it went in his mouth. Next thing I know his loose tooth popped out!  Luckily we found it and he was able to put it under his pillow that night.

If you weren’t a teacher, what else would you love to do as your career?
I’ve always wanted to be a teacher since High School. I guess I whatever it is it would be with kids.

Tell us one thing you’d love for the families of Crescent Heights to know about you.
I love CHE!!  It’s a great school and I’m always trying to make it better.  I want your child to have fun in PE!   Winning is fun but it isn’t everything at this level.  Do your best and try your hardest.

Thanks Mike!
