Teacher Tuesday profile: Shawn Clapp
Next up on our Teacher Tuesday schedule is Shawn Clapp! He is one of our 5th grade teachers who was instrumental in helping the PTA get our kiddos back to 5th Grade Camp! Here is more info on Shawn!
What is your name, and what grade/specialty do you teach?
Shawn Clapp, 5th Grade teacher!
Tell us a bit about your family. Do you have kids? If so, what ages are they? Do you have pets?
I am married to a fellow Crescent Heights teacher, Lynn Clapp (she teaches 1st grade). We have three awesome kids: Noah, age 15; Dylan, age 13; and Joelle, age 10. We have 1 dog, a golden retriever named Nugget, and 2 cats named Boots and Zoey.
What are your hobbies? What do you love to do outside of work?
I read, listen to music, enjoy coaching, love fishing. I collect anything golden retriever, antique browsing, and shopping at the best sports store EVER: Scheels!
How long have you been teaching, and how many years at Crescent Heights?
This is my 19th year of teaching! I’ve been at Crescent Heights for 5 years. 16 years in 5th grade and 3 in the 4th grade. Still LOVE working with kids!
What is the funniest thing a student has ever done in your class?
Once I was teaching about earthquakes using a Seymour Simon nonfiction book and a REAL earthquake occurred. The “Wonder” on those faces….”How did he plan that??” Everyone else was nervous or scared after we evacuated the school…Not my class! They were all laughing about the perfect timing of it all!
If you weren’t a teacher, what else would you love to do as your career?
I’ve always thought that a wonderful use of my time and golden retriever collection (with Nugget’s help)! would be to volunteer at a Children’s Hospital. Visit with Nugs and leave them with a golden from the collection…wouldn’t pay well as a career, but sure would pay well in my soul…
Tell us one thing you’d love for the families of Crescent Heights to know about you.
I love working with your kids and treat them as if they were my own…therefore I expect them to be at their best, because they are the best, in my eyes!
Thanks Shawn, you’re the best in our eyes too!
