Message from the PTA President

Happy November CHE families!

What a fun and eventful start to school we've had! A big thank you to all of our amazing volunteers who have stepped in a variety of ways and to our PTA Board members who have gone above and beyond. Special shoutouts to Marci Barnard for another amazing Scholastic Book Fair, and Lauren Beauregard for taking the lead on the awesome Harvest Party! We have other fun family events in the works for November and December. Your PTA membership is what makes events like these happen.

Friendly reminders:

  • Unless your child is in before-school care, DO NOT drop off your child in the lower lot. That area is for school staff and busses.
  • DO NOT drop off your child before 8:30am (9:30am on Wednesdays). There are no adults on duty watching children until that time. There have been several days of unsupervised students, and that is a safety issue.
  • And please, DO NOT park in handicap spaces unless you have a handicap placard or license plate. Even if you think you will only be a few minutes. We only have two of those spaces in our upper lot and need to keep them available for those that need them.

Thank you for your partnership and helping to make our school the best it can be. As always, if you have a question or concern, please don't hesitate to contact the PTA at board@chepta.org or me directly at president@chepta.org. We value your feedback and are always here to listen and address your concerns.

Go Huskies!

News & Events
The Read-A-Thon was a huge success!

THANK YOU to all of our families who participated in our Read-A-Thon! You blew us away with your support. Because of you, our school will get... *drumroll* ... $14,557.57!!!

The other purpose of read-a-thons is to encourage reading. Our students read for a total of 28,557 minutes! That is equal to 475.95 hours.

Some students had rewards they earned for hitting certain reading anf fundraising milestones. Those have all been distributed. Other student prizes were available to pick out in our prize store. The amount you had to spend was based on how much money your child raised. That store has now closed, and prizes will be mailed to the school in about a week. Once they arrive, and are sorted, we will send them home with students.

5th Grade Camp Update

Every February we send our 5th graders to Camp Seymour for two nights of fun and learning. Camp costs can add up, so our students do a variety of fundraisers. Our goal is to send every 5th grader that wants to go, regardless of their family income.

So how much have the 5th graders raised so far? Between the Read-A-Thon, Pay for PJ Day, and candy sales at the Harvest Party, they have brought in a whopping $5,147!

Look for Brown Bear Car Wash ticket sales in December and candy sales at a future event. Want to help make camp a reality? You can donate directly to the 5th grade camp fund here: https://tinyurl.com/CHE-5th-Grade-Camp-Donation

Dear CHE School Community,

Thank you for your incredible support of our fall Scholastic book fair! We are thrilled to report that over 1,000 new books are now in the hands of our students!

Thanks to your generosity, our PTA was able donate $1,000  from the proceeds to our school library which will be used to purchase more of the books our students love. Plus, every teacher was able to pick out new additions for their own classroom student libraries!

A special shout-out goes to our 30 amazing volunteers whose hard work and love of book fairs made this event a success. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Happy reading!

Reflections Art Contest!

Calling all artists!

‘Reflections’ is a National PTA program that recognizes students for their original art.

This exciting contest is a chance for our students to express themselves, develop artistic literacy, and submit a creative piece. The theme this year is "Accepting Imperfection".

Entries can be in the form of literature, music composition, photography, visual arts, film/video, and/or choreography/dance. Finalists from our PTA (to be judged by the PTA Board) will move on to the state round. Washington State PTA finalists who receive an “Outstanding Interpretation” award will advance to the National PTA round.

For more about the Reflections art program and submission requirements click the link below, or reach out to reflections@chepta.org

Entries are due by Monday December 16th!

IN PERSON: PTA General Membership Meeting - November 13th - 7pm

Our membership meeting for November will be IN PERSON! There will be FREE child care for your family thanks to the amazing folks from Prime Time who do our before/after school care.

Park in the lower lot, and enter through the courtyard. Kids will be in the gym/cafeteria, and the meeting will take place in the Instructional Room (bottom floor, behind the staircase).

Unfortunately, a Zoom option will not be available.

Husky Takeout Night - November 15

Save the date for our first Husky Takeout Night of the year taking place on Friday, November 15!

Dine in and mention this fundraiser or order online from Red Robin in Federal Way and 20% of food purchases will come back to CHE.

This fundraiser supports all 5th graders in being able to attend camp this year. Be on the lokout for fliers coming home!

PTA Membership Drive Happening Now

Now is the moment to sign up for, or renew, your PTA membership for the 2024/2025 academic school year!

Simply signing up as a member does not obligate you to volunteer or attend meetings, but it DOES help support the opportunities, programs, and events the PTA hosts throughout the year like the Scholastic Book Fair and Popcorn Fridays. It allows us to support staff through the educator discretionary fund and staff grants. And it helps us build community with special events such as the Harvest Festival and Family Skate Nights.

Calling all November birthdays!

Our Books for Birthdays program is off to a great start this year as we are already receiving donations to our school library! Recognition of the students with classroom readings begins this week for those who have already donated and we are excited to start filling our bulletin board celebrating those who have contributed.

Want to participate in this fun program? Visit chepta.org/books_for_birthdays to purchase one of the books off of our approved wish lists. Our recently updated program letter will be sent home during the month of your student's birthday; however, you may choose to donate at any time! A book is always a wonderful gift to give.

Caitlin Nieburg is always happy to answer questions! Just email booksforbirthdays@chepta.org .
